On a separate 'Compliments slip of the Librarian of the House of Commons', the author has written, 'David/I did enjoy writing/this!/David M. 25.1.90.'. David Menhennet was Librarian of the House of Common Library, the inscription is to a former incumbent of the post, David Holland (1915-2007). Booklet not signed. The article first appeared in the periodical 'The Book Collector' volume 38, number 4, Winter 1989. Here it is published separately as a booklet, and concerns the bestselling French novel 'Paul and Virginia' by Bernardin de Saint-Pierre first published in Paris in 1787.
