About This Item
N. pl., n. pr., 1648. 77 pp. Small 4to. 20th-cent. half leather (new endpapers). N. pl., n. pr., (1648). The peace negotiations of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years war, are of the utmost importance in European history. The treaty was concluded on 24th October by Emperor Ferdinand III (1608-1657) with France at Münster, and with Sweden and the German Protestant leaders at Osnabrück. Here present is the text of the Osnabrück negotiations. Representatives of the Empire there were Johann Maximilian Count Lamberg, and Johannes Krane, imperial court counsellor; the Swiss confederacy at the peace congress was represented by Johann Rudolf Wettstein, mayor of Basel. The text of these Osnabrück negotiations depended for its success to a great degree on the satisfaction of the French government. The Westphalian peace became an important part of the German constitution, and the independence of Switzerland from imperial jurisdiction was confirmed. - VD 17 3:657044Y and 23:294480G.
