Wills, Jr. 1936-2017, Longtime USC China Studies Professor was PO of this volume and has signed his full name to fep; this is probably the copy from which he wrote his review for The China Quarterly which is tucked in. Wills was a prolific scholar of works on relations between China and the West during the age of exploration; his book on the Ming-Qing transition period entitled 1688: A Global History. is now a classic
