Mountain Valley, Va: Andrew Hess & Henry A. Showalter, 1853. Hardcover. Fair. Printed at the Office of Joseph Funk & Sons. 336 p.; 18 cm. Contemporary calf with five spine compartments between double gilt rules; black leather label with gilt-tooled title in second compartment. Green label on front fixed endpaper: "From Joseph Funk & Sons Cheap Printing and Binding Establishment." This appears to be the only work every published by Andrew Hess and Henry A. Showalter. The two volumes are paginated continuously and bound together. Very scarce. In Fair Condition: both boards are detached but present; loss of some leather on front board; title page is detached but present with loss along gutter, which results in minor loss from text on title page verso (To the Reader) but not from the title page itself; old repair holding back free endpaper to back board; old dampstain along lower page edges; foxing and occasional staining.
