Description:
Bloomington: Indiana University Book. Good. Soft cover. pp51-58. Removed from INDIANA MAGAZINE OF HISTORY, Volume 59, No. 1, March, 1963. Wrps. VG. From 1750 to 1814 there was ongoing conflict between the Indians and the whites for possession of territory in the upper Ohio Valley and the Old Northwest. The Indians, who had first supported the French against the English and later the English against the Americans, were not a party to the Treaty of Paris of 1783, which gave the United States title to the Old Northwest. So their conflict with the Americans continued until they were defeated at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. But in 1793, the Quakers had drafted an appeal to the Indians attempting to preserve the peace and asking the Indians to accept Christianity. The appeal was dated April 19, 1793, at Philadelphia, and included 44 names..
