London: The American Society of London, 1939. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Near Fine. Program for the annual American banquet celebration of Independence Day, this annual on the cusp of World War II with Joseph Kennedy, father of President John Kennedy, presiding as US Ambassador to the Court of Saint James. Ownership copy of Mrs. Sherman P. Haight, aka Anne Lyon Haight (1891-1977), noted bibliofile, adventurer and author with her place card with an engraved American flag laid-in. Stiff printed covers, red/white/blue string-tied, 5.5" x 8.5"., 24 pages. Contents include: menu (six courses); toasts (to the King and President with toast proposed by the US Ambassador and the response by His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent, aka Prince George), seating chart for Table "A", the head table: lists of guests (alphabetically), floor plan for tables numbered 1- 47; list of guests by table; and lists of committee members. The last page are lyrics to God Save the Queen and Star-Spangled Banner. Laid-in is a one page sheet of a Supplementary List of guests. Beautifully preserved.
