About This Item

Washington DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1915. First Edition. 4to (260 x 195 mm). Frontispiece portrait of the collector, 329 pp. Text with some foxing. Bound in original quarter morocco (head of spine chipped), top edge gilt. NOT EX-LIBRARY. Catalogue of incunabula from the John Boyd Thatcher collection, deposited with the Library of Congress in 1910. The catalogue is groundbreaking on account of the copy-specific descriptions of BINDINGS and PROVENANCE, which were almost never recorded in incunabula catalogues at this early date. With a long biographical sketch of the collector.

¶ From the famed bibliographical library of B.H. Breslauer (sale of the Bibliotheca Bibliographica Breslauerana, Third Portion, 2005, lot 1300).
