The illustrator, Robert Fabelo, was born in Havana in 1951. One of 3000 copies. *Klein* A9.e; this story was originally published in 1972, as part of a collection of six stories. It is a work that deals extensively with the issue of minor prostitution in the South American Caribbean . It tells the extended story of Eréndira, a young woman raised by her grandmother since her father died. Eréndira serves as a domestic servant to her grandmother to justify her stay in the house to the extreme degree of exploitation; Her story becomes even more complicated when she accidentally burns down her grandmother's house because the grandmother decides to prostitute her until she gets her to pay the full value of her house that has been burned to the ground. It can also be interpreted as a metaphor for García Márquez between the exploitation of less developed countries (Eréndira) by developed countries (The grandmother).
