New York: Dover Publications. Very Good. 1963. Softcover. Illustrated with 127 engravings. This Dover edition is an unabridged reproduction of the work first published by Harper & Brothers in 1843. Volume I has 303 pages and a fold out map ISBN 0486209261, Volume II has 336 pages 048620927X. "Before Stephens' expedtion to Yucatan in 1841, little was known of that country, the Maya Indian culture, for example, had not been discovered. Stephens found, and described forty-four Maya sites." The engravings by Mr. Catherwood "are hightly exact and realistic drawings showing ancient ruins, interior and exterior views of Maya tombs, hieroglyphics and drawings found on the wall of Maya temples...." Ships same or next business day. Volume I end of spine is bumped, two small white spots on side face. Volume II back cover is creased, spine has three tiny white spots, brown spot on head edges of text block. Both have minor edge wear. ; Engravings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
