Softcover. 303pp 336pp. illustrated. foldout map at rear of Vol.1. A classic of travel and archaeology. Before Stephen's expedition to Yucatan in 1841 little was known of that country and the Maya Indian culture had yet not been discovered. Stephens found and described 44 Maya sites, his account of which is still the most authoritative in existence.
