About This Item
London: Faber and Faber. 1962. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Original red cloth with titles in blue and gilt on the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that is toned to the panel edges and spine. Not price-clipped (21s on the front flap). An unusual collection of 'translations' by Robert Lowell of a wide range of poems originally written in a variety of languages other than English, which may be better thought of as creative interpretations, or as Lowell himself puts it, "versions and free translations". The poets featured range from Homer and Sappho to Rainer Maria Rilke and Boris Pasternak. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
