Housed in illustrated bluish-green wraps, a bit worn and chipped, 24 black-and-white engravings to accompany Charles Dickens' beloved The Pickwick Papers, each page being a black-and-white engraving by Frederick W. Pailthorpe (1838-1914). Measures nearly 11 inches by seven and a half inches. Slight wear and chipping to a few plate edges, light sunning and toning to a few others, light soiling to wrappers, else housed in two plastic sleeves. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
