(UK) Bookplate from the City of Sheffield for year ended July 31, 19--, (partially rubbed away) to the front pastedown, no other markings, light spotting to the covers, with lower corner tips rubbed through, endapers tanned,about Good; no Dj. 20 x 13.5 cm, red cloth with gold titles to front and to spine, design device of a rising sun to front and sea cliff scene to the spine, xx, 444pp, index. Colour frontis of "The King of Beasts"; 480 B&W illus of animals and birds in the text. There is a preface (for the first edition) which is dated 1852 and an undated preface for the second (revised) edition. This is a description of the habits and habitats of animals and birds, with some material on fishes and insects, in the correct classification "drawn from personal experience and from the most recent zoological writers". There is a lot of anecdotal material included which makes the most interesting reading. No date a guess at 1900s. (2.2 JM HOQ 101/a5. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by HARVEY, William. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Postage is $6.99 US, media mail for the first book the US weighing up to 2 pounds; $3.00 for each additional book for shipping by media mail to the US for books weighing up to 2 pounds. Books weighing more than 2 pounds, and priority shipping will be quoted. We are glad to quote delivery cost to international buyers. Books are carefully wrapped and shipped in corrugated cardboard cartons. Books are returnable for a full refund if the book is not as described.
