About This Item
London: Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green, by Paternoster-Row and Mawe, 1827. Hardcover. Very Good. Folio - over 12 - 15 tall. A monumental (and monumentally important) work, accompanied by 22 highly finished lithographic plates, printed for Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, & Green, Paternoster-Row, and J. Mawe, London, 1827. Rebound in simple, rich green cloth boards and protected by a stiff Mylar coat. First Edition Thus, bound in tall quarto format. iv + 48 pp., plus an Index. Each of the 22 lithographic plates comes with its own caption, and each plate contains several images. Title page detached but present. Faint toning and discoloration at gutter of first endpaper, and at rear pastedown. Withdrawn from the New York Society Library, but with only few signs thereof beyond small, unobtrusive red ink-stamps facing each lithographic page. Overall, an absolutely collectible item in sturdy condition. Jean-Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet de Lamarck was born in 1744 and lived until two years past the publication of one of his many masterpieces. Heavy books or multi-volume sets will require additional postage. Send me a message before purchase if you want a quote; otherwise, I will contact you after purchase with the final shipping price.
