Guinevere flees to the Convent at Almesbury where she eventually receives the King?s pardon after he first reproaches her. She watches him leave and repents, hoping they will be reunited in heaven. She serves in the abbey, is later chosen Abbess, and dies three years later. The passing of Arthur obviously tells the story as it is detailed in The Morte D?arthur by Malory and covers the return of the mortally wounded King to Avalon and the story of Excalibur and the Lady of The Lake. Tennyson sought to encapsulate the past and the present in the Idylls. Arthur in the story is often seen as an embodiment of Victorian ideals. His position as poet laureate during this time and the popularity of the Idylls served to further propagate this view of men, women and courtly love in the Victorian age. Volumes 1,2,3,4 & 5 are also listed!* A VG+ copy with some minor cover faults. No dust jacket.*
