Ideas for Black Studies provided an overview of Morgan State College's (HBCU) Black Studies program in Baltimore, serving as a national exemplar during the rise and growth of Black Studies in colleges and universities.
Professor Fisher advocated for Black Studies in higher education, announcing a project to publish syllabi and study guides for Black or African-themed courses in the humanities, while also outlining the requirements for bachelor degrees in Black Studies and a graduate program in Black History.
Other chapters discuss urban studies, college libraries and special collections of Black books, and wider faculty involvement in Black scholarship. The appendices include a bibliography of books on "Negro and Related Studies" by the college faculty, a list of art works in the Morgan State College Gallery featuring Black artists or Black subjects, and a section on "Frederick Douglass at Morgan State College."
