England, 1850. Near-fine.. An attractive octavo Valentine with intricately produced lace paper, depicting wild roses and lace surrounding a young couple. Opens to reveal two scraps: one embossed with two birds, and the other depicting a swan with the phrase "I am yours and thou art mine". Larger floral scrap to front. Lace paper colored with pale orange and gold. Measures approx. 7" by 4.75". Blind stamp to lower leaf ("From the collection of Marcia Finley Smith"). No maker noted.
