Good/None. 327pp; No DJ, red cloth boards with silver titling to front, faded titling to spine, fraying to spine ends & corners of boards, spine darkened, endpapers illustrated with map, small surface tear to FFEP, hinges professionally repaired, pages slightly age-toned, text unmarked, binding is sound, Good condition. Inscribed & Signed by Author on 1/2 title page: "To Mr. John Simons with Compliments of Henry Morgenthau Oct 29/29." Scarce, vintage volume containing first-hand account of Morgenthau's work as chairman of the Greek Refugee Settlement Commission established by the League of Nations helping to rebuild a nation while he "saved a million and a quarter starving a destitute people fleeing from the ravages of the Turks." Henry Morgenthau, Sr. (1856-1946) was a German-born Jewish American lawyer and businessman best known as ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during World War One. He was one of the most prominent Americans to speak out on the Greek and Armenian genocides, stating, "I am firmly convinced that this is the greatest crime of the ages." Illustrated with photos.
