About This Item
EMI, 1999 A small hardcover book whose covers are illustrated with Ralph Steadman in spectacular drag. Inside: text, Steadman illustrations, photos of Steadman by his wife, Anna Steadman, and a music CD illustrated on the non-optical side by a photograph of Steadman in drag. The CD is a collection of works chosen by Steadman, and as he explains in the short essay he wrote: "My choice is balanced by the desire to be moved to laughter or to tears. Music flushes out the tubes blocked with resentment and the words devour sourness with reason and understanding, irony and humour. In some ways it is a psycho-analysis in sound and in that way a revelation of the private side of my nature." 5 5/8 x 5 1/8 inches, unpaginated (about 15 pp.). The music includes: Spike Jones and his City Slickers (Cocktails for Two), William Borroughs (Thanksgiving from Dead City Radio), Mussorgsky (Pictures at an Exhibition); Ralph Steadman, Hunter S. Thompson and Mo Dean (Weird and Twisted Nights); Beethoven (Kyrie from Missa Solemnis), Vaughan Williams (Satans Dance of Triumph from Job), Bob Kerr and His Whoopee Band (Making Whoopee), Ralph Steadman (Sweetest Love I Do Not Go), Billie Holiday (Strange Fruit). Fine. (1722RO067). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine.
