Invincible Press, Melbourne, 1954. First Edition. Buckram. Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. The text is illustrated with 32 pages of black-and-white photography. Buckram cloth boards with gilt coloured titles to the spine. Coloured illustrated front dustwrapper panel, showing Swan Lake and on the back a montage of black-and-white photographs. White coloured titles to the front panel and spine. The memoirs of the ballet impresario S. Hurok, who became the first important ballet presenter in 20th century America. The dancers he dealt with included Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, Robert Helpmann, Margot Fontaine plus many more. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and shelfwear to the lower book edges. There has been a printing fault to the spine region where the cloth has become somewhat buckled/bubbled. Browning to the paper edges. Offset tanning and browning to the end papers and internal pages have become quite age toned. Gift inscription to the free front endpaper. Rubbing and chipping, with loss, to the dust wrapper corners. Multiple tears to the top dust wrapper edge with associated creasing and a 0.25 " tear to the lower front dust wrapper edge with associated creasing. Rubbing to the lower dust wrapper edge. On either side of the top spine edge small pieces are missing. There is a 1 " tear to the rear top spine area with a arcing tear to the rear dust wrapper panel. Rubbing to the dust wrapper panels. Browning to the verso of the dust wrapper with the occasional foxing spot. This is the first Australian edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 336 pages, index..
