Dustwrapper very slightly rubbed and edgeworn; occasional fox spot. Very good condition. "One of the most important features is the considerable list of cartographers, engravers, publishers and printers concerned with printed maps and globes from 1500 to 1850, more than 2,000 of them. The entries in the list give dates, class of work, nationalities, and in some cases, particularly in those of important figures, further details including the titles of works and collaborators. The text of the book is designed primarily to be of practical assistance to collectors and dealers. The chapter headings are as follows: I. An Outline of the History of Maps and Charts. II. Celestial Maps and Charts. III. Methods of Map Production. IV. Decoration and Conventional Signs. V. Terrestrial and Celestial Globes and Armillary Spheres. There is a valuable and fully illustrated Appendix on The Use of Watermarks in dating Old Maps and Documents." .
