Essays on aspects of Great Lakes history and the Old Northwest, including Clark's military activities on the border before and during the American Revolution, division of the territory into states, Black Hawk and the Black Hawk War, Mackinac Island, La Pointe, Braddock's Road, lead mining on the Mississippi, early Wisconsin historian Lyman Draper and his manuscript collections & influence. Thwaites was a notable historian and Secretary of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Hardcover, full green cloth, decorated in gold & dark green, as pictured; design by Frank Hazenplug, with his 'H' monogram. Shows some wear, corners bumped; light rubbing, pencil gift note ("Bob from Nick") on the back of the frontispiece; plate at page 214 has a chip, image not affected. Text clean; xx, 378 pages + ad; index, 23 maps & plates as called for. . Second Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 5¼" by 7½".
