Publisher's envelop lettered J laid-in with letter stating – Dear Collector, Contrary to our colophon page, this lettered state of Dark Rivers Of The Heart has been hand bound by Claudia Cohen in full Morocco leather with Fabriano Roma end-sheets and stamped in 22-carat gold. First edition (published 1832-38), octavo, three volumes; xii, 388; 409; 509pp. In contemporary half calf (lightly worn), spines divided into five compartments with gilt rolls and double fillets, gilt lettered titles and volume numbers to second and fourth compartments respectively. Early ownership labels to front endpapers, neat early ink ownership names to head of each title page, early pencil ownership inscription to opening blank of volume three, half-titles present in all three volumes. Clean attractive copy in first edition of Warren's often macabre tales that have received considerable scholarly attention as a source for Edgar Allan Poe's works of mystery and the supernatural.

Gemstone Publishing, 2006. 4 vols. in slipcase. Very Good in Good slipcase. Slipcase shows shelf and handling wear with rubbed corners, edge wear, and light soiling. Four volumes: Crime Illustrated (Adult Suspense Stories), Confession Illustrated (Adult Romances), Adult Tales of Terror Illustrated (Horror and Suspense), and Shock Illustrated (Adult Crime Stories). All four volumes show very minor shelf and handling wear to their covers with some minor abrasion to the spines as well. Interiors are all crisp, clean, and pristine with no marks. In the gutter of every volume in both the front and the back there is a long thin adhesive bleed-through from production. Overall a clean, solid set showing minimal signs of use. (i-v)., 252pp. with half title, title, publisher, table of contents. Reprint of the 1936 original Queensway Press Edition of The Readers Library Publishing Company of London. Issued without a dustjacket. Black boards with gilt spine titles. In fine, unread condition with a tiny dust mark lower outer edge and a tiny crease at head of spine.
The novel was based on the James Whale film "The Bride of Frankenstein" (1935) starring Elsa Lanchester and Boris Karloff. After the movie was completed, Michael Harrison was commissioned to produce a novel from the original film script. Given only three weeks to produce a finished work, Harrison (Egremont) ultimately abandoned the script and produced what "was to all intents and purposes original fiction."
