Several signs of previous owner. Image of actual book: two red marks are on the cover. Discoloration on the cover. No DJ. Some bumping, rubbing, little tears on the top, tail of spine, edges, corners. On back cover there is also a mark of something splashing and caused the color to fade. A white mark is also on the back of book. When opening the book the cover board is worn but binding is still intaxt. Dampstain is visible inside book, pages but has not disturbed the reading text. Matthew Maule has cursed Colonel Pyncheon in revenge for stealing his land and his life. Through a century and a half, the curse affects the members of both families, and is embodied in the big crumbling mansion that is the House of the Seven Gables. 1924. A10.
Synopsis

I just found a hard back cover edition of this great book on my mother-in-laws book case. She received it for a Christmas present in 1941. It has a number 53 stamped into its back cover. I'm reading it now and enjoying the writers craft and story. I became intrigued with Hawthorne's style and decided to look it up.
