New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1912. First Edition, First Impression . Cloth Bound Boards. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 1912 First edition, first impression. Size large octavo, 690 pages including index. Burgundy cloth covered boards with gilt titles, publisher's emblem and facsimile signature to the front cover and gilt titles to the spine, top page edge gilt, other edges rough trimmed. With title page printed in Red and black and tissue protected frontispiece of James Harper and 15 further illustrations. Condition good, covers rubbed at the edges, front hinge weak, few spots to end-papers, page edges a little toned else contents very clean. The four Harper brothers, who founded the house of Harper & Brothers, were born between 1795 and 1806 in Long Island, New York. The humble beginnings of the brothers into the publishing business is recounted along with stories of their relationships with many famous authors.
