About This Item

New York, NY: Simon and Schuster, 2001 Simon and Schuster, New York. 2001. Hardcover. 6th Printing by Line Number. Signed by the author on the title page as J Carter (not a signature on a bookplate). Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good +; bumping to head, tail, and upper tips. DJ: Very Good +; NOT Price Clipped ($26.00); bumping to jacket at head, tail, and upper tips. Tan paper over boards with blue overlay on the spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. 284 pp 8vo. This is President Carter's story of his Depression-era boyhood on the family farm in Plains, GA, before the civil rights movement that changed it and the country. Carter tells stories of his family, friends (black and white), and relatives and how they lived in the segregationist South. This book evokes a time when the cycles of life were predictable and simple and the rules were heartbreaking and complex. A clean very presentable copy.
