About This Item

The Library Association, London, first edition, 1982. One of 50 copies which were given a de luxe binding, from a limited edition of 1000 signed and numbered copies. Full crimson morocco, gilt, marbled endpapers, 8vo,. xxxiv, 474 pp, ills. 3,226 entries. One of the 50 copies with the de luxe binding. From the foreword by Dorian Williams:"It could almost be said that [this] is the most important book about horses that has ever been produced, as it summarizes not only a large proportion of all the books about horses, horsemanship and horsemastership, with the exception of racing, over the last 125 years, but also gives the background against which the books were written." The bibliographical information is usually limited to author, title and date; the emphasis in the discursive and fascinating annotations being very much on the contents of the work and its significance in equestrian history. The book concerns itself solely with non-fiction books, pamphlets and other literature published in Britain from 1851 to 1976. Copy No. 35. Signed by the author. Slightly rubbed at foot of spine, otherwise Fine.
