About This Item

London: Horizon, 1949. Very Good. London: Horizon, 1941-1949. Fifty-one issues of the 120-issue run. Octavos; variously paginated. Printed paper wraps. Covers throughout show expected shelfwear and toning with a number of issues chipped at spine ends or with small, closed marginal tears; some covers with light vertical creasing; a few with brief writing on covers -- a couple with ringstains or coffeespotting -- some glue-rippling down spines; some spines cocked or rolled. Front cover separated and spine missing on September 1941 issue. Many open easily between gatherings, but bindings are generally secure throughout set.

A highly influential monthly literary magazine edited by Cyril Connolly, which published the major and emerging writers of the WWII-era. Includes the first appearance of the first chapter of Ralph Ellison's The Invisible Man in the October 1947 double-issue.
