Gilt applied to top edge of text block, remaining sides are rough cut. Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Minor pencil marking to front free end-paper. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Sunning to spine. Gilt lettering is darkened. Book has a slight forward lean.

Watson (2 August 1858 – 13 August 1935) was an English poet, popular in his time for the celebratory content, and famous for the controversial political content, of his verse. Although very much on the traditionalist wing of English poetry, he courted controversy with a passionate attack on Turkey ('The Purple East' (1896)) and then later again with intensely anti-Boer War poems. Includes the poems 'The Unknown God', 'Ode in May' and 'A Courtezan - A Patron', amongst many others. In a full cloth binding with gilt labelling to spine. Externally, sound, faded but with very little shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound with just one instance of straining. Spotting to endpapers and textblock edge, otherwise bright and clean. Very Good
