Honolulu: [The author], 1941. First edition. Oblong 4to (220 x 285 mm; images mostly 7½ x 10 inches). 172 silver gelatin prints, tissue guards with printed captions. Original patterned cloth, paper label, ends of spine repaired. Fine condition.."Baker's efforts in tracing the history of his predecessors in the islands is almost as valuable as his own photographic work. Baker spent much of his time during the 1930s and 1940s collecting, photographing and identifying images of such early photographers as Stangenwald and Chase" (Abramson, Photographers of Old Hawaii). Inscribed and signed by Baker.
