Description:
Jackson: University of Mississippi Press, 2009. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. Octavo; xiii + 191pp.; tan cloth, in dust jacket. Signed by Petry on the title page. Petrys memoir explores the life and legacy of her mother, the writer Ann Petry. Best known for her 1946 novel The Street--the first book by a black woman to sell more than one million copies--Petry was notoriously guarded about her private life. Not only did she tailor her own life story by "omitting information, changing details, embellishing the stories she heard as a child," but she also destroyed many of her notebooks and personal documents in later life. In At Home Inside, Elisabeth Petry mines her mothers remaining journals to paint an intimate biographical portrait of one of the most poorly understood figures in American letters. A fine copy in a fine jacket, which has a small spot of interior soiling along the top edge of the front panel, not visible on the exterior.

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
