Description:
[Spring Green, WI: Taliesin Press, Spring 1944].. 32pp. Oblong small quarto. Printed wrapper. Vertical crease from having been mailed, light tanning and minor nicks at edges, else a very nice copy of a fragile book. Denoted a "Revised Printer's Proof" of a chapter intended for the revised 1943 edition of AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY, but not included therein and distributed in this form by Taliesin. There was another printing, on newsprint, dated Summer 1943, featuring differences in text and typographic arrangement. Accompanied by a t.l.s., [Np], 27 Aug. 1950, from Wright's secretary, Eugene Masselink, forwarding this copy, along with some other Taliesin papers, to an inquiring party. Uncommon and fragile. OCLC locates six copies, all in North America, as opposed to well over thirty for the "Summer 1943" printing. SWEENEY 2049. OCLC: 3738363.

Caracas, Venezuela: Sociedad Editora A., 1954. Whole number one (of four published). Quarto. Decorated stiff wrappers. Photographs, renderings and illustrations. Forecorners bumped a bit, but a very good copy. Edited by Vallaneuva, Ramón Losada and Juan Pedro Posani. The first number of this short- lived, high quality periodical devoted to considerations of architecture, city planning, sculpture, painting, photography, film and literature. It involved printing in color and b&w on a variety of stocks, unconventional typography, and a sensibility partaking of optimism and forward-thinking. Although intended to appear quarterly, because of the cost of production only four numbers appeared, the last in July 1957- a fifth issue was in preparation, but was not published. Scarce: OCLC cites only four locations: MoMA, Yale, MIT and UT Austin.

London: REAL, 2017. Limited Edition Hardcover. Fine/no dj, as issued. Hardcover. Fine. The first ever publication on Mansion House Square, modernist architect Mies van der Rohe's only design for the UK. In the early 1960s, the modernist architect Mies van der Rohe designed a spectacular amber glass and steel office tower for the City of London. If completed it would have been his only project in Britain. But after two decades of planning, the building was cancelled, amidst political intrigue and controversy. For almost forty years, the project archive has been inaccessible and unpublished, as the commissioner Lord Peter Palumbo (a well-known developer and patron of architecture in the UK) held the only copies of all Mies' work. Now the REAL foundation has managed to get exclusive access to this material (in collaboration with RIBA, the Royal Institute of British Architects. This high-quality publication comes with exceptionally reproduced drawings and images - including never-before-seen plans,…

Casa del HerreroHouse of the Blacksmithstands today as one of the most fully developed and intact examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It was designed and built between 1922 and 1925 as a second house for George Fox Steedman, a St. Louis industrialist. Thought principally to be the work of George Washington Smith, the architect, Steedman himself generated many ideas during the initial design phase that were both a blessing and curse to Smith. Steedmans vision prevailed, and throughout the decade following the houses initial completion, he continued to rework both house and garden, engaging the architects Lutah Maria Riggs, Edwards, Plunkett & Howell, and Floyd Brewster, and garden… Read More
