About This Item

Tucson, Arizona: The University of Arizona Press, 1981. Sixth Printing . Trade Paperback. Very Good. 6" x 9. Pollen, Don - Cover. 115 Pages Indexed. The study of Holy Wind in Navajo Philosophy is based on a combination of field interviews with Navajo informants and library research, both conducted during 1970-1972 from a base at Many Farms, Arizona, in the central part of the Navajo Nation. Data analysis involving Navajo research assistants was conducted at the same site. Informants were sought who were believed to be especially knowledgeable about traditional Navajo culture. Among the Navajo, singers who are practitioners of the various ceremonials and healing chants, are known to be primary bearers of traditional lore, being well-versed in the general origin myth as well as in specialty myths which branch off at various points. Of the ten informants used in this study, eight were, or had been, practicing singers.
