About This Item

1855 1ed HOLY LAND David Roberts Jerusalem Jacob's Well Nazareth Calvary Samaria

David Roberts, a 19th-century British artist, made his claim to fame by his impressive work "The Holy Land". Roberts began a missionary voyage to the Middle East in 1838 in which he traveled to Egypt, Israel, and other countries in the Holy Land where he illustrated iconic ruins, temples, and famous landscapes. These views became instantly popular throughout the English speaking world in 'The Holy Land', each paired with a description of the location.
