About This Item
New York: Julian Mesner, 1959. 8vo, pp. 320. Original black boards, lettered in green on front panel and spine. Text block a little browned, a couple of small marks to preliminaries, otherwise a near fine copy with just a little rubbing to spine ends, in a very good photo-illustrated dustwrapper, with two very small chips to lower edge of front panel, one to foot of spine, and a couple of closed tears to the lower edge at rear. 8 pp. of black and white photographs at rear. First edition. A slightly sensationalist dustwrapper design hides a serious study of the Beat movement -- one of the first -- written by one of the elders of the movement. Lawrence Lipton was a novelist, essayist and critic, associate of the Chicago writers active during the 1920s, Ben Hecht and Sherwood Anderson among them. (He was also the father of Inside The Actors Studio host, James Lipton).
