NP, 1850. Unbound. Very Good. HOLNE VICARAGE, and surrounding area. Five original watercolours, on four sheets, depicting Holne Vicarage, Holne Village, Holne Cott[age], and two of the New Bridge at Holne. c.17cm x 25cm (3), 16cm x 17cm, 10cm x 14cm. c1850. £195.00 + vat ~ These were most probably executed by members of the Waddon-Martyn family of Tonacombe Manor, Morwenstow, Cornwall in the mid 19th century. Tonacombe is the original of "Chapel" in 'Westward Ho !' which was partly written there, and Charles Kingsley was a frequent visitor. He was born at Holne Vicarage, under the brow of Dartmoor. The house no longer exists, but stood on the site of the present vicarage.
