About This Item

San Francisco: Department Store Strike Committee, 1938. Handbill, 5.5x8.5 inches, printed on one side only with a small illustration, toned with minor chipping on the edges. The Committee was formed by Department Store Employees Union, Local 1100, Janitors, no. 87, Elevator Operators, no. 117 and Joint Board of Culinary Workers - all AFL unions. Local 1100 was a majority female union, with a large number of women present on their militant picket lines. The fight was for better wages and a union shop.
