Wealthy on both sides of her family as a result of the China trade, she was additionally endowed with impeccable ancestry. She did not begin her career as a preservationist until the age of fifty. After buying the land on which the Bronson Alcott's 1843 experiment in communal living, she restored the building as museum. Through the years three other museums were established there: Shaker, American Indian, and a gallery of nineteetnh century American art." FINE HARDCOVER, FINE- DUST JACKET.. Hard Cover.
