Description:
London: Rafe Newberrie and Henrie Denham, 1584. First Edition. . Hardcover. Poor. This is a very defective copy of the first edition of an important Welsh book which ran to 5 subsequent editions. Title page and pages 1-8 of the preface "to the reader' are missing and bound in in manuscript, as are pages 13-16. Then a "description of Cambria numbered" 15-18 in manuscript. Then pages 3-22 of "the description of wales" are original. Then pages 1-54 orginal (55-8 manuscript) , 59-112 original (113-4 manuscript) then 115-126 original (127-8 manuscript) 129-190 original (191-192 manuscript)193-382 original (383-400 manuscript) 401 original, then an unumbered page. Index in manuscript. So there are 41 missing pages + index. The first edition is the only one which went to 401 pages hence it must be the first edition. There are many notes in the text as well, in what appears to be a contemporary hand in a mix of latin, welsh and english, which perhaps is not surprising as this… Read More
