About This Item

Jonathan Cape, London, 1968. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first English edition. 8vo. 351pp. Purple boards lettered in gold at the spine and with the publisher's black stain to the top edge. Frontispiece. A small area of staining to the fore edge (not impacting the leaves) and some light spotting to the endpapers. A very crisp and bright copy in marked and a little edgeworn non-price-clipped dust wrapper, with a short tear to the base of the rear panel and an accompanying crease, and a short yet jagged enclosed tear to the spine panel. Former owner name inked to the front endpaper. The first English-language edition of Nadeau's first book, his 'bible of surrealism' written and published under Nazi occupation in 1944. This English edition also includes the epilogue from the subsequent 1957 edition..
