About This Item

Oxford: Oxford, at the Clarendon Press, 1826. Edition Not Specified. Very Good/No DJ. 8vo = over 9". n/a. Printing Not Spec. To which is now added an Historical View of the Affairs of Ireland. Beautiful 8 volume set containing the following titles: The Life of Edward Earl of Clarendon, Lord High Chancellor of England, and Chancellor of the University of Oxford, in which is included a continuation of his history of the Grand Rebellion written by himself - Volumes 1 & 2, The History of the Rebellion - Volume I, Parts I & II, Volume II, Parts I & II, and Volume III, Parts I & II. Reddish/brown marbled leather with gilt border, marbled endpapers and edges of each volume. Raised bands on spine with two areas for labels, however, nearly all the labels have since disappeared. The covers are worn & rubbed on spines, corners, and edges, some scuffing to covers and the leather on the spines of nearly all the volumes are cracking. Volume 2 of the biography of Clarendon & Volume 1, Part II of the History - the front cover hinges are cracked and very worn & fragile. Throughout all of the volumes there is minimal foxing, more surrounding areas where there are illustrations. This is a lovely set for both the covers as well as the historical value of the contents.
