About This Item

The history of the nine worthies of the world three whereof were Gentiles, I. Hector, son of Priamus, King of Troy, II. Alexander the Great III. Julius Caesar. Printed for Nath. Crouch, At the bell at the poultry near Cheapside. 1687. With an engraved image of each of the Worthies, 190 pages with a further six at the end with 'Books printed and sold by Nath. Crouch'. "R.B." are initials for "Robert Burton," a pseudonym of bookseller and publisher Nathaniel Crouch. Original full calf on board cover, Crouch's history books presented shortened and simplified versions of serious works to audiences that might otherwise never have read them. Very Scarce. Hardback, no DJ. Good, calf skin on board, wear to corners, well bound, pages are strong and still crisp, tanning from age, page corners bumped and some folded over, no major rips or tears.
