New York: George P. Putnam, 1850. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Felix O.C. Darley Engraved By Eminent Artists. 454 pp. Illustrated. Brown leather, bright gilt decorated edges, marble pattern colored endpapers, 16 engraved illustrations including frontis and fold out lithographed plate from a drawing by William Heath depicting "Peter Stuyvesant's Army Entering New Amsterdam;" Tissue guards present on all full plate illustrations; attached green ribbon place holder. Spine cloth faded, rubbed, spine titles rubbed but legible, rubbing and wear to extremities of front and rear boards; front gilt decoration bright; hinges show signs of weakening but are still secure; no loose pages; text and plates clean with minor foxing in isolated spots. Old signature of previous owner on f.e.p. and title page. "Containing among many surprising and curious matters, the unutterable pondersings of Walter the Doubter, the disasterous projects of William the Testy, and the chivalric achievements of Peter the Headstrong --the three Dutch Governors of New Amsterdam: being the only authentic history of the times that ever hath been or ever will be published.".
