New 27 Page Booklet. Early days in Chippewa County, MN, are recalled in this spiral bound booklet reprinted from the rare 1882 book: History of the Minnesota Valley, by the Rev. Edward D. Neill. The booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover. The booklet contains information on the communities of: Chippewa City, Montevideo, Sparta Township, Granite Falls, Tunsburg, Watson, Rosewood, Leenthrop, Kragaro, Lac Qui Parle, Havelock, Big Bend, Mandt, Grace, and Woods, Among the many subjects discussed are: Physical Features of the area; Early county officials; Early settlements; Walter Carlton, George W. Frink, and other early settlers; County "firsts," such as the first house, first school, first post office, first white child born, first marriage, etc.; Roster of early public officials; the Demise of Chippewa City and the Birth of Montevideo; Schools; Churches; Sunset Masonic Lodge and Chippewa Agricultural and Mechanical Society; First bank; Early Newspapers; Hotels and Businesses; and other bits of history and trivia.
