About This Item
New York, Boston, Montreal: D. & J. Sadlier & Co., 1868. Irish patriot John Mitchel (1815-1875), after his escape from Tasmania to America, continued the 18th-century history of Ireland by the Abbe James MacGeoghegan. This copy is complete in one volume, an interesting variant by the publisher, and much less common than the illustrated 2-volume editions Sadlier published. A Very Good (Minus) copy, with the brown leather binding somewhat scuffed and chipped, and the edges dusty. The first signature is weak but holding, with the cords showing. The precedence of the various Sadlier editions is somewhat unclear, particularly since some were undated. This is the first version issued without mention of the Irish Brigades or of the original translator. Despite its popularity in the 19th Century, good copies are are scarce. No dustjacket, as issued. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Thus.. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket.
