About This Item

Philadelphia: Carey, Lea, & Blanchard, 1835. Thomas Moore (1779-1852) is sometimes known as the "national poet" of Ireland. Also a musician, his melodies were wildly popular in the 19th Century, but he also wrote this history of Ireland. This is a Very Good Plus copy of the First Edition Thus, a different book than the "Cabinet History" issued in 1830. Although Moore wrote four volumes of this History, they were issued separately and stand alone. Quite scarce. [at time of listing, with no institutional holdings]. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 273 pages with 22 pages of publisher's adverts to rear. Light tanning throughout but text quite readable still, although the pages are rather stiff to turn. Mildly bumped and the spine somewhat darkened. College library label (from 1835) on the front paste-down; later withdrawal stamp. A nice copy of this rare volume. No dustjacket. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/Near Fine. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
