The first edition of the work. With half titles to all volumes. Bound without the advertisements. Blanks before half titles to volumes two and three. 'The History of Henry Esmond' is a historical work telling the memories of Henry Esmond, a colonel serving for Queen Anne, against the backdrop of the English Restoration. Thackeray later wrote a sequel, 'The Virginians'. William Thackeray is best known for his satirical works looking at English society, most especially for 'Vanity Fair'. He tended to be quite savage in his attacks on society, publishing under various pseudonyms in his youth to avoid personal criticism. In half straight grain morocco with marbled boards.
