About This Item

Cincinnati, OH; Toronto: Hitchcock & Walden; Wesleyan Book Room, 1875. First Editoin. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. A pretty comprehensive state by state survey of temperance movement activities. Illustrated with plates depicting such edifying scenes of children bursting into a saloon which a skeleton behind the bar pours daddy some rum. Includes a report to the Lincoln (Neb.) Temperance Society by a chemist on "How Some Liquors Are Made" -- for example, Detwiler's yummy "Black Maria" contains Sugar of lead, eight grains to a quart; as well as strychnine and Brazil-wood. In the publisher's brown decorated cloth binding with some silverfishing to boards and spine. The front hinge is cracked but holding. Very Good binding.
