First published in 1843, issued more than 200 times and frequently translated, HISTORY OF THE CONQUEST OF MEXICO garnered rave reviews from THE QUARTERLY REVIEW, THE EDINBURGH REVIEW, THE NORTH AMERICAN REVIEW, and others (Gardiner). Two volumes, 8'' x 5'' each. Original green cloth with gilt lettering to spines. Top edges gilt. Each volume with black-and-white engraved frontispiece and tissue guard, with black-and-white illustrations and one fold-out. Volume 1 with 468 pages, volume 2 with 490 pages. Mild soil to boards; light bumping of corners and spine ends. Leaves uniformly lightly tones, with occasional tiny spots of soil. Clean and sound.
