London: Chatto & Windus, 1874. Stout octavo, original red pictorial cloth stamped in gilt & black, black endpapers. pp (2), x, 616, 40 pp Nov., 1874, ads + folding colour frontispiece + 2 b&w folding plates + 7 b&w plates + 2 double page b&w plates. Numerous illustrations facsimiles in text. The repaired spine is rather a mess - rippled, bit of loss to gilt title, bit of wear to ends, joints repaired; inner hinges, title, and dedication leaves neatly repaired with rice paper at inner edges; slight foxing to the frontispiece and title page; just good externally, internally clean and VG, now tight in the binding and protected with a plastic wrapper. An extensive and most interesting treatment of the subject. Owing to its bulk and antique cloth that is not strong enough, it is usually found with worn spine. 1.5 kg. First edition. Hardcover.
